Delores Jean Smith Wootchie, age 73, of Marysville, formerly of Hopedale and Cadiz, died Thursday, Aug. 20, at Hospice at Riverside Kobacker House in Columbus.

She was a former associate of The Nestle Company in Marysville and the Y&O Coal Company in Harrison County. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hopedale. She served her parishes with sharing prayers, volunteering and singing in the choir.

A graduate of Hopedale High School, she was a former member of the Hopedale Garden Club and Women’s Club. She volunteered at the Marysville Public Library and Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden, volunteering and attending church events. She was born March 5, 1942 in Steubenville, Ohio and was preceded in death by her father, Michael J. Smith; and her husband, John D. Wootchie. She is survived by her mother, Leona L. Lunter Smith of Powell; two sisters, Marcia Smith Dickerson of Lewis Center and Patricia (Gerald) Zoladz of Powell; two sisters-in-law, Judy Evans and Dolly Lewis; many nieces and nephews, including Kelly (Danny) Stauffer and Michael (Tamuna) Dickerson; and other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Marysville where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass. Rev. Fr. David A. Poliafico will officiate. Graveside services will be held at noon Wednesday at Holly Memorial Gardens in Colerain. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or Union County Cancer Society. Underwood Funeral Home in Marysville is assisting the family.
