ADENA – As part of the “Adena Community Gathering” sponsored by the Adena United Methodist Church on Friday, August 16, 2013, there will be a registration for a free giveaway of back-to-school items for Adena, school age students. The students will then be asked to come to the Adena United Methodist Church to pick up their items at the 9:30 a.m. worship service. Prior to distributing the items, the committee will bless the backpacks.

“We think it is an important gesture,” states project organizer, Anita Jackson, “that we send our students to school this fall with all the assistance that they can get, in this uncertain world.”

Displaying the banner that will be displayed at the church are: (L-R) Jacob Sliva, a Sunday School student; Mrs. Dorathy DeLong, Sunday School Superintendent; Ms. Anita Jackson, Church Lay Leader and Trustee; and James Sliva, Sunday School student. Other members of the committee include, Mrs. Helyn Hopkins, Mrs. Mary Lou Bartrug, and Mrs. JoAnn Barkhurst.

The Rev. Raymond “Drew” McPeek is the pastor of the church.  Registration of back-to-school items is open to children from all church families of Adena. The “Adena Community Gathering is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in front of the Adena United Methodist Church and will conclude at 2 p.m.

The event will include information booths, free light lunch, music and children’s games. The Adena public is invited.
