TIPPECANOE – The prospective royal court will be featured for the annual Homecoming Festival in Tippecanoe this weekend. The Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department and EMS are hosting a day of food and entertainment on Aug. 3 at the fire hall along Ohio 800, while also raising funds for the agency.

Festivalgoers can first load up with a hearty breakfast at the nearby Tippecanoe United Methodist Church, which is a fundraiser for the site, from 7-11 a.m. The fire department will gear up for its celebration with a full menu of treats at 11 a.m. as the kitchen serves up barbecue chicken, fish, hot dogs, sandwiches desserts and other delights, while crowds can also browse among flea market, craft and raffle tables outside on the firehouse grounds. Children can even enjoy old-fashioned games such as basketball shoot and football toss, plus an inflatable bounce house.

A kiddie and senior pedal tractor pull is slated for 1 p.m. with musical entertainment throughout the afternoon. Cabin Boys Plus 1 performs with Roger Shepherd from 1-2 p.m. and Jim McConnell will sing from 3-5 p.m. Another highlight is the ever-popular and self-explanatory Cow Chip Bingo. People can place their bets on makeshift bingo squares on the lawn to see where a cow leaves its mark.

Fire trucks, floats, classic cars and other units will line up at the south end of town around 5:30 p.m. for the parade at 6:30 p.m. Laporte said roughly 30 units have taken part in the past. Parade entries will be judged with cash prizes going to the top floats and participating emergency vehicles receiving plaques.

More music will be featured following the parade as Paul Reynolds takes the stage. Meanwhile, the fire department will conduct raffles to win prizes donated by area merchants.
