Skyler Dye and Jacqui Huebner rehearse for the Hope Players upcoming production of Bruce Jacoby’s one-act drama about teen suicide, “The Girl in the Mirror,” to be presented at Harrison East Elementary School September 15 at 7:30 p.m. and September 16 at 2 p.m.

“The Girl in the Mirror” tells the story of 17-year-old Susan Connors as she lies in a coma in the intensive care unit of a hospital after taking an overdose of sleeping pills. The circumstances that brought Susan to this place are told in a series of flashbacks. The play addresses the issues of depression and suicide, as well as how misunderstandings between people can lead to tragic results.

Director Cassie Bellerive of Hopedale, a senior at Harrison Central High School, is the director of the play. She said she proposed the production to Hope Players executive director Andrew Pelegreen III because “Everyone knows of at least one person who has attempted suicide, or knows someone with a friend or family member who’s tried to take their own life. It’s especially a serious problem among teenagers,” she added.

Audience members can save $2 over box office prices by purchasing advance tickets from any cast member or at the Hopedale Village Building Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets also may be purchased by calling 740-937-2208 or 740-937-2629.
