CADIZ – With all of the oil and gas drilling occurring now and in the future, one Harrison County leader is advising residents to make sure their groundwater is safe.

Commissioner Don Bethel encouraged citizens to have their water tested prior to drilling to protect themselves from possible problems in the future.

“We’ve been meeting with drilling companies. They will be drilling here in the near future and they will be drilling next year,” Bethel said. “I am strongly advising those people outside the corporation limits to get their water tested by a private corporation or company they feel they can trust and that they feel comfortable with.”

Bethel noted that citizens countywide should have water tested before any drilling occurs. “I cannot stress that enough. I think it’s important for everybody, not only current water but future waterworks.”
