Harrison Hills City School leaders were recognized a little early for School Board Appreciation Month, which falls in January. Superintendent Dr. George Ash presented board members with gavels as a token of appreciation and lauded outgoing member Paul Coffland for his service over the past several months.

Phil Madzia was elected to fill the slot and will be sworn in next month. Pictured above are, front from left, Vice President Judy Crawshaw and member Bob Hugh. Back: Coffland, Melvin Allen and President Debbie Kenny.

Harrison Hills City School Board President Debbie Kenny, pictured left, accepts a $100,000 check from James Fleagane, brother of late benefactor George Fleagane, who donated funds from his estate to establish the Bob and George Fleagane Scholarship Fund. Scholarships will be awarded to students living in the former Cadiz High School area in honor of the former R&F Coal Co. operators.

Details of the meeting are featured in this weeks print edition of the Harrison News-Herald.
