Former Harrison County Treasurer George Campbell pleaded no contest on Sept. 23 to a fourth-degree theft charge following a deal with the special prosecutor and awaits sentencing on Nov. 4. Officials said he cashed checks from the Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department, of which he served as treasurer for more than 30 years, and an ongoing investigation showed he took more than $29,600. He is expected to repay the amount as restitution.
