After the closing of the Freeport VFW, area firefighters came together to form a color guard of their own. Led by Harrison County Sheriff Ronald Myers and his son Evan, the group proudly displays the red, white, and blue, along with the fireman’s flag, ax, and hook.

Pictured left to right in the color guard are: Jason LaPorte of the Washington Township VFD, Rick Bear of the Moorefield VFD, Robert Koch of the Freeport VFD, Cindy Bear of the Moorefield VFD, and Paul Ash of the Washington township VFD. The Freeport Firemen’s Festival parade marked the group’s second appearance in area parades, their next stop…the Tippecanoe Homecoming Festival, August 6.

The Freeport Fireman’s Festival parade also included the Lakeland Democratic Woman’s Club float, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The club will be featured in the August 6 print edition of the Harrison News-Herald.
