STEUBENVILLE — Franciscan University of Steubenville physics professor Dr. Alexander Sich will explain why the Japanese nuclear crisis is “Not Another Chernobyl: The Fukushima Nuclear Crisis vs. Chernobyl,” in a talk on Wednesday, April 6, at Franciscan University. His presentation will be at 11 a.m. in Pugliese Auditorium, SS. Cosmas and Damian Science Hall. It is free and open   to the public.

A Harvard graduate with a PhD in nuclear engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sich was the only U.S. scientist to work side-by-side with Russian and Ukrainian scientists for 18 months within the Chernobyl disaster zone, making him one of the few scientists worldwide who can compare the Chernobyl accident of 25 years ago to what is unfolding in Japan at the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Parking is available alongside the Vaccaro Baseball Field and the St. Joseph Center parking lot.
