HOPEDALE – The Hope Players have changed their second audition date for the classic off-Broadway musical comedy, “Nunsense.” Auditions still will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. this Wednesday, February 23, but the second date for try-outs has been changed from this Thursday to Friday, February 25.

Auditions will be held at Harrison East Elementary School in Hopedale. The show will be presented on Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 8, at 2 p.m. at Harrison East.               Hope Players’ executive director Andrew Pelegreen III, who will direct the production, explained that the change from Thursday to Friday was made after a typographical error was discovered. “After we sent out the first notice about auditions, which also was the basis of our first news release on auditions, we realized that the second date had been listed as the 24th instead of the 25th,” Pelegreen said.  “We wanted one of the audition dates on a Friday for those whose schedules could not accommodate a week-night audition,” Pelegreen added. “We want as many area actors as possible to be able to try out for our all-female cast,” he said. Musical director Judy Kuryn noted that those auditioning for “Nunsense” should prepare a song that shows their vocal range. They may bring a pre-recorded accompaniment or sheet music for live accompaniment. Actors also will read selected passages from the script.

“We also welcome anyone interested in working behind the scenes on scenery construction, lights and sound, and musicians who’d like to play in the orchestra for the show,” Pelegreen said. “Those interested in technical positions in the production may come to auditions or contact me by phone,” he added. “Nunsense,” with book, music and lyrics by Dan Goggin, follows the adventures of the Little Sisters of Hoboken, who decide to put on a variety show featuring the nuns as a fund-raiser. The all-female cast includes parts for women of varying ages. The youngest is the novice Sister Mary Leo. The order is led by Mother Mary Regina. The second in command is Sister Mary Hubert, the mistress of novices. The group also includes the street-wise Sister Robert Anne and the child-like Sister Amnesia.
