Mary Virginia Couch, 94, Jewett, died Jan. 15, 2011 at her daughter’s farm near New Rumley.
She was born Mar. 2, 1916 in Jewett and resided in the area her entire life. She was the daughter of Samuel and Nellie Myers Patton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church of Jewett or the local garden club.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held in the spring.
A full obituary will appear in the next print edition of the Harrison News-Herald.
My Condolences to the entire family; her daugther Sally and husband Carl, Sally’s daughter Theresa Yoder and her two children, Virginia’s (Ginny’s) two great grand sons.
In that small community that once existed on what is now called Brier Road, Virginia Couch was the next to last surving adult and parent of those families who made up our small neighborhood.
A remarkable woman, hard working and dedicated to her family, church and the community of Jewett.
In my grade school days and after school, during the summer; that lady was almost a second mother; putting another plate on the table when I stuck around her kitchen just before dinner time.
She will be missed by her family and certainly someone who will be missed by me.
