The residents of Gables Care Center celebrated Christmas with their Harrison West Elementary Pen Pals on December 16. The thirty-nine students of Kathy Miser and Lisa McAfee arrived in the afternoon to meet the residents who have been their pen pals since school began. Prior to their meeting, they exchanged cards, artwork and even edible crafts for the various holidays. The children sang Christmas songs, and the residents performed “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” for them. A time was spent just getting to know one another, followed by snacks. The Pen Pal Christmas Party is probably the most anticipated event and much appreciated by the Gables residents. Pictured is Alexis Dulkoski who was Rudolph for the song. Also, Resident Ethel Martin is shown reading a poem about Rudolph to students. Marilyn Thompson who was the person in charge of this program at Gables, is standing with the Santa hat. More festive, holiday events of the area, can be found in this week print edition of the Harrison News-Herald. The following pictures feature some of the residents with their pen pals.
