FREEPORT – A group of Freeport-area residents want to halt the sale of the Harrison Lakeland Elementary School property and keep it within the community, even if it means taking court action.

Seventy-two acres of property, including timberland and the school itself, were going up for bid Nov. 24, but opponents want to stop the auction and give Freeport Township the same consideration as Jewett when the village sought its school for $1.
