CADIZ – The 164th Annual Harrison County Fair started this week with a full schedule of events including Junior Fair shows, derbies and truck and tractor pulls.

According to Senior Fair Board member Devanie Gladman, the fair program was completely revamped this year. The entire fair board worked to put together a great fair week filled with events and activities. The following is a list of judging and events.

Tuesday, July 6, 2010: Flag raising, Sheep Show 9 a.m., Rabbit Show 10 a.m. Tuesday is also free admission for senior citizens to come and enjoy the fair. Tuesday evening swine show with showmanship 5 p.m., market show 7 p.m., the grandstands 7 p.m. talent show, and departments seven through 12 will be judged on Tuesday.

Wednesday, July 7: Jr. Fair Poultry Show 9 a.m., Beef Show 10 a.m., scarecrow contest and exhibits due 10 a.m., hay and forage show noon, auction of baked and canned goods 5 p.m., Steer Show 7 p.m., and Grandstands Wednesday, night the Buckeye Horse Pullers Association Horse Pull 7 p.m.

Thursday, July 8: Dairy Show 10 a.m., Jr. Fair Saddle Horse Show in the arena 10 a.m., Gift basket exhibits due by 10 a.m. Grandstands Rough Truck event 7 p.m., and Goat Show 7 p.m.

Friday, July 8: Horse arena with PAS and Versatility 9 a.m., Cat Show 9 a.m., Dog Show 9:30 a.m., table setting contest judging 10:30 a.m., Livestock Sale 4 p.m., Gift basket auction 9 p.m., and the demolition derby will take place at 7 p.m.

Saturday, July 10 wraps up with the farm stock tractor pull at 9 a.m., horseshoe tournament 10 a.m., Horse Fun Show 10 a.m., Supreme Showmanship 3 p.m., sheep-shearing contest 6:30 p.m. and the truck and tractor pull at 7 p.m.

There are some new additions to this year’s fair program, including a wine category in the Seventh Department. There is also a mechanical bull this year as well as a Wilton Cake Decorating contest. Amusement rides are open every day from 1-10 p.m.

Details for any events can be found in the fair book. The fair board is looking forward to another year and hopes that there will be great weather and a big turnout.
